About BrainScope
BrainScope Company, Inc is a privately held medical neurotechnology company developing a new generation of portable, simple-to-use, non-invasive instruments to rapidly, and objectively assess brain function at the initial point of care. The portability and ease-of-use of these tools in development could aid United States military Health Service Support personnel in promptly diagnosing Traumatic Brain Injuries that require rest and/or other treatment and removal from environments at risk for repeat brain injury. The company’s initial focus is the development of a device for military use, to aid in detection and assessment of Traumatic Brain Injury (including Severe Traumatic Brain Injury, Moderate Traumatic Brain Injury and Mild Traumatic Brain Injury/Concussion, all referred to as “TBI”) using an objective scale.
The key idea behind BrainScope is that the electrical activity of the brain contains substantial information regarding a patient’s brain function and neurological condition, which can aid medical professionals in assessment of abnormality of brain function.
BrainScope has focused on optimizing analysis of brain electrical signals to enhance detection and assessment of changes in brain function. We are currently integrating our Intellectual Property, technology platform, and algorithm development process to create a robust, portable device intended to be deployed in military settings for providing reliable, rapid, objective assessments of abnormality of brain function for use in triaging and diagnosing traumatic brain injuries.
According to the CDC, about 75% of TBIs are mild in nature , and routinely go unnoticed until further damage occurs, which often does not appear until weeks after the injury is sustained. It is not uncommon for a mild Traumatic Brain Injury (“mTBI” or “concussion”) to go undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. Because time to treatment is of upmost importance in mTBI our goal is to provide medical professionals with new, rapid, effective analysis tools to assist in the assessment of brain function. We are committed to development of such tools to aid in the assessment of severity of brain injury and help speed patients to appropriate treatment.
1Important note: BrainScope devices are all in development, under clinical research, and are not commercially available. The company is in the process of attempting to obtain its first FDA clearance for marketing in the U.S. with its first device, and plans to pursue a separate FDA clearance process for each new indication for use or product iteration, which includes the application for brain injury.
